Bude is a delightful little Cornish town and has been developed from the original fishing village of Bude Haven. Increasingly regarded as a quality resort, fifty per cent of the visitors have been here before. The friendly atmosphere, the wide open spaces and the dramatic scenery have inspired writers, painters and poets for centuries. It is this inspiration that encourages our guests to relax and unwind from the stresses and strains of everyday life.
Bude Canal has a reputation as one of the finest coarse fishing waters in Cornwall. Roach, bream and carp are caught here, Over downlands and clifftops you have the freedom to ramble for miles, unchanged in appearance from the days of the wreckers.
‘The Loveliest Peace of the West Country’ is the local phrase adopted, that perfectly describes the special nature of this unspoilt area of coast and countryside, where Cornwall meets with Devon. This is a land of mystery, of magic and romance, with miles of glorious surfing beaches, towering cliffs, and sandy coves, little fishing harbours and wide open spaces of moorland. Fairs, fetes and festivals are all part of the Cornish way of life and visitors are always warmly welcomed.
Within a few miles of Bude there are many exciting places to visit. Southwards, we have picture book fishing villages like Port Isaac and Port Quin, with their narrow winding streets, the Victorian harbour of Boscastle, King Arthur’s Castle and Merlin’s Cave at Tintagel. Northwards, we have the wildness of Hartland Quay and the uniqueness of Clovelly, with flower strewn cottages tumbling down the cobbled streets to the 14th century harbour below.
